ONCE UPON A TIME ON PLANET EARTH An International Photographic Project by Ron Modro, special guest writer/artist
Once Upon A Time On Planet Earth, on August 6, 1945 at 8:15 AM, the first atomic bomb was dropped on a civilian population in Hiroshima, Japan, killing 80,000 people instantly, and at least 60,000 since then have died, thus marking the beginning of the Nuclear Arms Race. Sixty-two years later, on August 6, 2007 at 8:15 AM, twenty-five participants from 17 countries around the globe each took a single photograph. “The belief that a single human being can make a difference, gives life to this innovative project. Remembering a single moment in history is the very essence of this global photographic endeavor.” “Once Upon a Time on Planet Earth” is their contribution to today’s global dialogue - an essay from the unique and collective perspectives of the photographers who have chosen to participate in this experience. “Once Upon a Time on Planet Earth” is the brainchild of ex-pat Ron Modro: an American living in France. Modro is an independent journalist/photographer. “I wanted to find a venue to exploit the Internet as a force of global change for peace and understanding.” Modro says. “How could we use the blogosphere to change and help re-shape public opinion and governmental policy? How can the Internet influence the biggest issues of our time? Remembering a single moment in life is the very essence of this global photographic endeavor.” Read Selections from the Project in the Right Frame.
